When I was living in Buenos Aires I often walked for hours in the city, discovering its neighborhoods, finding new restaurants, cafes and bars. I did not find this classic Argentine parilla until at least a couple of months after I moved to our apartment in Palermo. This was kind of funny since the restaurant is located just a couple of blocks from where we used to live with Ana.
The restaurant is called Don Julio, and it is located on a corner of Gurruchaga and Guatemala. For all you meat lovers out there looking for an authentic Argentine asado while you can see it being grilled on a giant BBQ, this is the place. This is a non-pretentious yet elegant, low-key place that fills up with locals and some tourists alike after 9 pm. It offers mid-priced meals with generous portions of meat, sausages and other grilled specialties and has a good size wine menu. We ate there twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner. It is recommended to make reservations.
